The Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall is a place where people can learn about Beijing’s city planning in the past and the future. A multitude of miniature models of the city are on display here and explain why the city is arranged the way it is.
Getting to the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall is very convenient. Located beside Tiananmen Square and just east of Qianmen on No 20 Qianmendong Main Street in Dongcheng district, visitors can walk here from subway Line 2’s Qianmen station or from Tiananmen Square or the National Museum located nearby. The admission fee is 30 yuan ($4.81) for adults, and an extra 10 yuan is charged for the movie. Children and seniors above 65 are free of charge.
The Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall showcases the great achievements of Beijing’s urban construction in the past and the blueprint for future urban development. Visitors to the exhibition hall can learn about the master plan for Beijing and view Beijing’s overall layout in the past. Visitors can also watch a documentary on the development of Beijing. The highlight of the exhibition hall is the miniature city model that covers an area of 302 square meters, which offers people a bird’s eye view of Beijing and can help people better understand how the city has traditionally been built on north-south and east-west axes.
