Beijing Today Art Museum was founded by Zhang Baoquan in 2002. It has been managed by the current director, Zhang Zikang, since 2004. The museum aims to promote Chinese contemporary art based on an internationalized vision and contemporary ideology.

As the first non-profit, non-governmental art museum in China, it is committed to exploring an appropriate development strategy for museums of its kind within a Chinese context. "Looking ahead based on the present" is Today Art Museum’s motto. It hopes to construct the best contemporary art museum in the world.

The museum focuses on Chinese contemporary art, art genres and key artists. At the same time, it pays attention to discovering and supporting young artists. It is engaged in the construction of a museum framework and technical practice.

The museum aims to push forward the whole development of Chinese contemporary art. Meanwhile, Today Art Museum communicates with international cultural and art institutions through holding various exhibitions and communication activities.

Today Art Museum is actively developing a model for non-public operating museums. It is working to set up a reasonable financing mechanism and a self-contained working system.

Today Art Museum pays attention to the collection and research of the museum collection. Contemporary painting makes up its main collection. Its collection also includes all kinds of contemporary art works with different media.

The collection of Today Art Museum has three sections: non-profit collection of Today Art Museum, contemporary art works collected by Today International Culture and Art Ltd, and the trusteeship collection of other collectors.

Today Art Museum seeks to build a publication platform. It publishes several art magazines. At the same time, it compiles and publishes nearly 300 art books and theoretical works, which can provide important reference and investigating modes for promoting, populating and researching Chinese contemporary art.

It creates a panorama record of contemporary art, and records it with high level digital technology. It will fill in the blanks found in historical materials. Today Art Museum respects art appreciation and education, and wants to connect them to create more opportunities for citizens.
