The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal stretches 184.5 miles from Georgetown to Cumberland, MD. Mule-drawn boat trips available (April-Oct.). Wide towpaths open to bikers, joggers and hikers. The main entrance, visitor center and coach parking at Great Falls (MD).

The National Park Service invites you to travel back to the 1870s on a mule-drawn canal boat! Hear the stories of those who lived and worked on the C&O Canal, follow in the footsteps of the mules who pulled the canal boats, and ride through a 19th century lift lock. One-hour round-trip excursions depart from Washington DC and Great Falls MD. Call ahead for current schedule. Tickets are $5 for visitors age 4 and up (those younger ride for free). Groups of 10 or more people may make advance reservations by phone.
