Just 50 minutes from Cardiff by boat experience the unique environment of Flat Holm Island. Rich in wildlife and steeped in history.
Day trips and overnight stays cater for families, individuals, special interest groups and educational establishments.
Discover about the Danish invaders taking refuge on Flat Holm, St Cadoc who visited the island for periods of tranquility, the isolation of cholera victims at the only pavilion-style hospital built on an island, and even military fortifications and the first ever wireless radio transmission across water.
Admire the rare wild leeks and wild peony, experience the thrill of walking through a breeding bird colony, search for slow worms and look at the geological formations.
Visitors spend three hours on the island. It is advisable to bring a packed lunch, though the newly-opened Gull and Leek pub – the most southerly in Wales – offers a range of refreshments. Tea and coffee are also available on the island and a small range of Fairtrade confectionary, drinks and souvenirs can be purchased from the shop.
Please wear suitable clothing and closed footwear - no footwear with heels. It is advisable to also bring waterproofs as part of the boat is not covered and those passengers sitting in this area may experience getting wet from sea spray.
Booking is essential. A schedule of trips is available at the website or by contacting the Flat Holm Office.
