From 9 April 2014 to 17 August 2014
Overview
The Barbican Art Gallery doffs its hat to one of the leading lights of creativity as it pays tribute to the Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier.
The first major exhibition devoted to his unique vision, this is a chance to celebrate the talents of France’s leading avant-garde designer. Working in the industry for almost 40 years, Gaultier has managed to shape fashion with his witty and daring designs. With a self-confessed fascination for world cultures and counter cultures, his work has managed to erase boundaries between both nations and sexes.
A fittingly theatrical exhibition, this show brings together more than 140 cutting edge garments, including some of the iconic efforts created for film and performance. Highlights include the conical bra and corsets worn by Madonna, stage costumes worn by Kylie Minogue and pieces created for Luc Besson’s film The Fifth Element.
