As the first 5A scenic spot in Heilongjiang province, the Sun Island scenic area is a popular tourist destination in Harbin. Thousands of people visit the island every year.

It is located on the north bank of the Songhua River, and it is also the only wetland scenic area in the center of the city.

Its unique natural beauty and romantic northern European style are well known. It is home to various tourist spots, including Squirrel Island, Swan Lake, a modern-style garden and the Russian customs town.

With a total of more than 1,600 squirrels, the 2.4-hectare Squirrel Island provides visitors an opportunity to feed the lovely animals and get closer to nature.

The Russian customs town, which consists of 27 villas and private residences with strong Russian characteristics, adds an exotic flavor to Sun Island.

There is an annual two months-long event in winter – the China Harbin International Snow Sculpture Exhibition for visitors to admire the landscape covered by snow and all kinds of snow sculptures in Sun Island.

In summer, the island is a good place to escape from the heat. It boasts green grass and forests, blooming flowers and bird migration, feeding and breeding areas.
