The theater was founded in August 1954, which was made up of several local art troupes in Heilongjiang province.

It has created and displayed a large number of music and dances with ethnic flavor and local features. The performers of the theater also toured to a group of countries and regions for cultural exchange, including Canada, Indonesia, Singapore and Russia.
