Randeng Temple was originally located near San'e Mountain at Luodai Ancient Town, home to several waves of Hakka migrants throughout the centuries.Built during the reign of Sui Kaihuang (AD 581-600), the temple was originally called Xinxiang Temple.
In the early Tang Dynasty, it was known as the Mimu Temple, but was destroyed by Emperor Wuzong during a national anti-temple campaign.
Its rebuilding started in 855, when it was renamed Shengmu Yuan, during the reign of Xiantong (860-873).
In 1009, Emperor Zhen Zong named the temple Ruiyingxiang Yuan, and the temple became more famous.
During the reign of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty, the temple received its present name of Randeng after the Randeng (Dipamkara)iron Buddha displayed inside.
In November 1984, the temple was designated as a District Protected Historic Site in Longquan District of Chengdu.
In March 1988, it was relocated next to the Luodai Park in Luodai town, and was reconstructed according to its original design.
