Kapiti Island Nature Tours offer half-day, full-day and overnight stays to Kapiti Island, a nature reserve hosting some of New Zealand’s most endangered birds.
An island totally free of all introduced predators, Kapiti is home to rare birds such as Little Spotted Kiwi, Kokako, Saddleback and Stitchbird. When you visit, you'll have the unique opportunity to view these rare birds in a completely natural situation.
Visitors are able to experience uncontrolled natural forest regeneration with its accompanying wildlife. The Kapiti marine reserve adjoins the Kapiti nature reserve to provide a unique mix of protected marine and land environments.
Kapiti Island Nature Tours is owned and operated by local Maori family, the Barretts, who have been living on Kapiti Island since the 1820s. They have gathered generations of knowledge that they share on their tours including interpretation of the flora and fauna of the area, and local history and customs.
