The Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, is the most visited monument in France. It was built in the Middle Ages, at the far end of the Île de la Cité. Work started in the 13th century and finished in the 15th century. Badly damaged during the French Revolution, the cathedral was restored in the 19th century by the architect, Viollet-le-Duc. Its many visitors come to admire its stained glass and rose windows, the towers, the steeple and the gargoyles. They can also discover the Notre-Dame treasury and try and climb the towers to enjoy a panoramic view of Paris. In 2013, Notre-Dame is celebrating its 850th anniversary. For this occasion, many events have been organized and the cathedral will renew its heritage of campanology with the arrival of eight new bells as well as a new great bell. On the cathedral's parvis, a bronze star inscribed 'zero kilometre' indicates the centre of the country in terms of road distances.

Guided tour

Guided tours are organized by the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris and the C.A.S.A. association in various languages to present the spiritual message of this Shrine to Christianity, through its history, its architecture, its sculptures, its stained glass windows ... Tours begin under the grand organ at the following times:

French: Monday to Friday, at 2pm and 3pm (except the first Friday of the month and every Friday during Lent); Saturdays and Sundays at 2.30pm.

German: Fridays and Saturdays at 2pm. English: Wednesdays and Thursdays at 2pm and Saturdays at 2.30pm.

Spanish: Saturdays at 2.30pm (except during summer).

Italian: Thursdays at 2pm. Japanese: Fridays at 2pm (or Thursdays at 2pm on certain weeks).

Russian: Wednesdays at 2pm and Saturdays at 2.30pm.

Chinese: The 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm.

Opening times The cathedral is open 365 days a year from 8am to 6.45pm (7.15pm on Saturdays and Sundays). You can visit the cathedral's treasury from Monday to Friday: 9.30am to 6pm; Saturdays: 9.30am to 6.30pm, Sundays: 1.30pm to 6.30pm (these times may change during special occasions).
