Moving around Veliko Turnovo is pretty easy, there are 3 bus stations in town. Local buses run to towns such as Pavlikeni and Gorna, and back to Veliko, as well as around villages in the Veliko Turnovo region.
The main bus station is Yug bus station, which is located at the end of the downstreet Hristo botev 1km from the center. Regular bus services are available to/from Sofia and Varna to Veliko Turnovo with the buses arriving at the Yug (South) bus station or next to the Hotel Etar (depending on which company you're using).
Beside the hotel Etar is the ticket office where you can purchase tickets and see bus/coach timetables. From the stop near the hotel Etar you can take the Bus to Sofia which takes approx 3 and a half hours, and costs approx 12 Levs. Book in advance to guarantee a seat. If you cant find this bus stop/office, walk two blocks from the Maika Bulgaria sculpture, continue down to hristo Botev and turn left. A coach leaves Sofia to Veliko Turnovo and vice versa every 30 minutes (On the hour and at half past) from 0630 hrs to 2230 hrs, There is also a 2359 hrs and 0030 hrs service.
Buses to VT generally depart from stands 7-10, but do check when you purchase your ticket. Large bags will be stowed underneath in the hold - you will be issued a ticket for your bag and you will need to show this to reclaim your kit on arrival (which I find reassuring). Your specific arrival point in Veliko Turnovo will depend upon which coach company you use. Grup coaches arrive at the Veliko Turnovo Bus Station - this is on the outskirts of town but is only a 10 minute walk into the centre. Etap coaches arrive at The hotel Etar which is located right in the centre of town.
