The beautiful seafront promenade is perfect for a leisurely stroll, and a popular place to jog or run. There are plenty of good restaurants, cafés and ice cream parlors located here – as well as lively pubs, clubs and discos which attract a late night party-going crowd. During the day you can enjoy free street performances too, and the kids can let off steam in the children’s playgrounds situated along the beachfront.

Tel Aviv’s Beaches 101

Tel Aviv’s beaches run alongside a long promenade bustling with cafés, restaurants and ice cream parlors. The beaches are clean and safe, having recently been awarded prestigious Blue Flags, and have top notch facilities including showers and changing areas. As well as sun, sea and surf, there are always plenty of activities to enjoy at Tel Aviv’s beaches too. Here are a few tips to help you if you’re heading beachside

Best beach activities

Dolphinarium Beach may not top the charts when it comes to looks, but it makes up for it in charm, especially on a Friday afternoon. The beach becomes the meeting point for drummers and performance artists, and you too can take part in drumming sessions or simply settle down and enjoy the vibe.

Banana Beach is named after its café, and is a laid back place to read or play Matkot. In the evenings you can catch a film or sports show on a big screen free of charge. You can also chill out and make use of the atmospherically lit tables and chairs, set out on the beach.

Best beaches for surfing and windsurfing

The surfs up at Hilton Beach ‘til late, since they’ve installed special night-time lighting. Tel Aviv has a legion of die-hard surfers, who will surf whatever the weather, so long as there are waves. If you fit into this category this beach is for you.

Aviv Beach is the best place to practice kite surfing, while windsurfing is good at Dolphinarium Beach.

Beaches with great facilities

Tzuk beach is the only beach in Tel Aviv which isn’t free, but it’s probably worth the cost for its excellent facilities, especially for those with kids in tow. The beaches are beautiful and well kept, and there are even neat lawns to relax on, children’s play areas and benches.

Religious visitors and locals have a beach set aside for them, Nordau Beach. There are separate days for men and women – in fact many women of non-religious persuasion frequent it too to take advantage of the single-sex bathing.

Lively and bohemian or laid back and peaceful?

If you’re seeking fun head to lively Metzitzim Beach, which is frequented by a hip, trendy crowd. If you’re seeking a more laid back environment consider Tel Baruch Beach at the northernmost end of Tel Aviv for wide sandy beaches which remain natural and unspoiled. The waters are calm since half the beach is in a small bay, while you can enjoy informal dining at the beach-side restaurant.
