Thessaloniki's exuberant nightlife has rated it among the top "party cities" of the world and involves options for all tastes, from arty bars to noisy nightclubs, fleshed out by a highly active music scene and daily live events and exhibitions. The evening starts early with a drink at one of the bars located in the city centre, or by the sea, at the suburbs, or in central squares of Thessaloniki. Cafes, bars, clubs, and stages with live music, pubs and alternative clubs – you name it. Thessaloniki has the bigger campus in Greece with students from all over Greece and abroad attending one of the 5 universities. Thus, city's nightlife is full of energy by youngsters. Night life in Thessaloniki ends early in the morning.
Valaoritou - Syngrou
This is the region which once constituted the industrial zone in Thessaloniki. Out to Valaoritou Street, a nightlife hub in the city centre. You will come across bars with jazz, rock and mainstream music and you will have a great time drinking a beer or a fancy cocktail. Breakdancers stage an impromptu party on the dance floor of hipster bar La Dose, students cram into trendy bars and groups of friends share shisha pipes at pavement cafés blasting out rock music Lately, new bars have opened, such as the " Partisan", "Hide n' Seek" and "Rock n Rolla" on Valaoritou St, "My House" on Leontos Sofou, the "Submarine", and "Elvis" which has moved its location, along with its customers, from Nikis Avenue to this region, Piccadilly for late drinks and dance, Enola club for homo habitués after 2:00 in the morning and many more.
Coast
Alongside the coast, on Nikis Avenue, you will find many, cafés, bars and restaurants, outstand from the White Tower all the way to the port. It is ideal for all hours of the day. You can start out early in the morning drinking a coffee, relaxing in the afternoon or evening in a coffee shop with sea sight, or start your night with the first drink. There are many bars along the coast of Thessaloniki that stay open until the early morning hours, while it is suitable for all. As you stroll down alongside Nikis Ave, you will come across some restaurant-bars that are open from morning 'till night. There are also some coffee shops along the New Coast, right nearby the Concert Hall (Megaron) is located. Some boats are operating as bars where you can have your drink while enjoying a stroll by the sea.
Ladadika
This region near the port constitutes one of the most popular hangouts for night life. The old warehouses located here, have been replaced by bars, taverns and ouzeries. The picturesque neighborhood of Ladadika, named after the many stores that used to sell the oil (ladi). The graphic area of the Ladadika with its sidewalks and low, at most, 3-level buildings, once constituted the historic centre of Thessaloniki. Formerly a somewhat notorious district, the Ladadika has since been renovated and its many stone-built warehouses now host some of the most well-known bars and nightclubs, covering all sorts of music, including traditional Greek bouzoukia. Towards the late hours plenty of music halls are tempting visitors where amid locals they will be scattering flowers and singing. Most orchestras are playing traditional Greek songs by bouzouki. It won't be long before everybody standing on the tables and throw some of those flowers. Nevertheless, Ladadika is located very close to the port and the coast of Thessaloniki, therefore, it is indicated for a nice walk during the night.
Athonos Square
Preferred by many students of the city, Athonos Square is full of traditional Greek taverns serving meat and/or fish dishes accompanied by wine, retsina (local wine), beer and ouzo. Some feature live Greek music.
Bit Bazaar (flea market)
This area is another lively (and noisy) student hang-out with bars and ouzeries that fills up at nights. You will find cheerful faces singing Greek songs accompanying the Greek bouzouki.
Kastra (Ano Poli)
Up the hill, next to the Byzantine walls, there are many good restaurants with traditional tidbits and great view over the city. From the taverns with balconies and terraces the view is breath taking. During the sunset or at night with the city lights, Thessaloniki, the golf of Thermaikos and the Castles picture a postcard to remember.
Aretsou
Aretsou lies to the east and is part of the suburb of Nea Krini nearby Kalamaria. Avenue running close to the sea front, one can find family coffee shops which alter into bars at night, booming with vibrant music and crowded with young people.
