Useful Information

1. The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is open from 08.30 a.m. until 04.00 p.m. Tickets will be sold until 03.30 p.m. and you must buy your own ticket inside which costs 350 baht each.

2. The government do not offer any promotion or sale. If so, we will inform you.

3. The government do not subsidize cost of service so that a tuk-tuk or taxi driver can charfe an unbelievably low fare.

4. Please be careful of any stranger or tuk-tuk driver trying to approach and induce you to get to attractions, jewelry shops, tailors' , and so on because you can be ripped off.

5. You may also be induced and end up in a jewelry shop where you will spend your money on something you do not really want.

6. Nothing is free  especially around the area of attractions. Do not accept things from strangers such as bird's food, souvenirs like pictures, hats, postcards, etc. unless they tell you the exact price and you agree on that. Often they will say it is for you or it is free. Leave the things if you do not want to pay for them.

7. There is NO special lucky Buddhas,- that is only part of a trick.

8. The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is not closed during lunchtime. Sometimes you cannot get inside the palace buildings during a royal ceremony and you do not need to pay for the admission fee. Please ask an officer for clarification.

9. Please take your time to walk around and bargain for the best price before you buy something on the street.

10. The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha requires that you must dress properly but, do not worry, you can deposit 100 baht for renting proper clothes inside the Grand Palace and you will get your money back when things are returned (free rental).

11. Be careful of fake travel agents with a TAT license posted on their windows. Their license can be either fake or expired and they may overcharge. Please contact Bangkok Tourist Business and Guide Registration at 0-2250-5500 to check up on them.

12. Beware fake tourist guides. A good tourist guide will not have to wait along the street and look for customers (Remember this!).

13. Whenever you get into a meter taxi, you have to ask the driver to start the meter. If he refuses, just leave the car and get another one.

14. Incase you recognize that you are falling for a scam, try to contact Tourist Police at 1155.

We wish you an enjoyable and safe trip inside Bangkok and around. Please look for a tourist information booth with the logo of the city if you need any help.
