In the war of November 21, 1894, the Japanese invaded Lushunkou and brutally killed local people for four days. Nearly 20,000 people were killed and only 36 people survived.
After the brutal massacre of Chinese civilians, the Japanese attempted to conceal their crime. They buried the corpses of the victims at Baiyu Hill. Later, after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the government renovated the area in memory of the dead.
