Yunding Mountain scenic spot, covering an area of over 100 square kilometers, is located in Miyu Township, Loufan County, Taiyuan. The elevation of its main peak is 2,789 meters, which makes it the highest mountain in Taiyuan and the second highest mountain in North China. The scenic spot got its name from the steep and towering peak above the clouds. It’s covered by well-preserved virgin forest with very tall ancient pines and cypresses, and is the home to 285 species of wild animals including brown-eared pheasant, leopard and golden eagle. There is a vast grassland on the top of the mountain due to its altitude, which gives it the name of ‘Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in Taiyuan’. Yunding Mountain scenic spot is 95 km from the provincial capital, and is adjacent to the famous tourism area of Pangquangou scenic area to its south.

The scenic spot has got over 30 natural sights, such as a subalpine meadow, Maitreya Buddha Mountain, rampart rock, Monk Pig mountain, and a cliffside spring. It’s an ideal place for forest tourism.
