The White Dragon Temple is located in the mountainside of the Bailong (White Dragon) Mountain which is 22 kilometers west of Lanxian County and on the border of Lanxian County and Xingxian County. The mountain was originally called Dawan Mountain and was later renamed because of a White Dragon Temple there.

It is in the northern branch range of the Luliang Mountain and features majestic hills which are handsomely tall and straight with towering peaks that arise one higher than another. The mountain is covered with green pines and verdant cypresses, wonderful flowers and rare herbs. There are not only rare animals, such as the provincial brown-eared pheasants, David's deer, marten and musk, but also singular landscapes like “Long Men Fu Hu (Crouching Tiger at the Dragon Gate)”, “San Xian Wang Chuan (Three Immortals Watching the Plain)”, “Ying Bin Gu Song (Guest-welcoming Pine)”, “Shuang Song He Bao (Two Pines Holding Each Other)”, “Bai Long Xi Zhu (White Dragon Playing with Balls)”, “Ca Hu Yan (Rub Tiger Rock)” and “Ma Ti Shi (Horse's Hoof Stone)”.

In addition., the gigantic “Shou” (Longevity) – which is 15 meters high and 8.5 meters wide and is deemed to be the world’s largest stone engraved with a Chinese character – inscribed by famous calligrapher Zhao Puchu, has no doubt added a magnificent cultural landscape to the White Dragon Mountain. Lying in the picturesque and poetic land covered by pines and cypresses as well as green rocks, the White Dragon Mountain is bestowed with a mysterious touch. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as a holy land and listed top among the Eight Lanyang Sceneries. It has been greatly favored by men of literature who wrote many psalms praising the site.
