Taiyuan has a temperate continental climate. It is not bitterly cold in winter though it often snows. It is not so hot in summer though there is much precipitation.

It is dry in spring with much wind; and sunny in autumn when it is warm. The average annual temperature is 9.5℃. In January, the temperature is 6.4℃ below zero and in July it is 23.5℃.

The frost period in Taiyuan lasts from middle of October to the middle of April in the next year. There are 202 frozen-free days and 456 mm rainfall in a year averagely.
