Haidian district’s Weigongcun Road runs 1,174 meters along the Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Weigongcun community. The 14-meter-wide street acts as a hub connecting Third Ring Road in the west and Zhongguancun South Street. Since the mid and late 1990s, dozens of wine and coffee bars have sprung up on the section near the Beijing Institute of Technology. It became the Weigongcun bar streetonly bar street in Haidian district.

Beijing’s bars are touched with a nostalgic ambience. Compared with Sanlitun and Houhai bar streets, Weigongcun bar street feels more like a combination of Chinese and Western elements.

The street is popular with white-collar and gold-collar workers, civil servants, students, foreign teachers and artists from nearby art schools, such as the Art Institute of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and Beijing Dance Academy.

Most of the wine and coffee bars opened in the late 90s. Tony’s Bar was one of the first to open and has evolved into the biggest bar on the street at the moment. Most of the bars advocate a quiet environment and aim to offer a quiet and comfortable environment for guests to get together and chat, which is very different from the noisy style of Sanlitun and Houhai bar areas.
