The Louvre Museum is one of the world's largest museums and a historic monument. It is located on the right bank of the Seine in Paris, France. Originally built in 1204, the building was extended many times to form the present Louvre Palace, which has stood for more than 800 years.

It covers an area of 45 hectares (lawns included), and the architectures cover 4.8 hectares, spanning 680 meters in length. It consists of two parts. The old pary was built under Louis XIV, and the new part was constructed under Napoleon.

In 1682, Louis XIV chose the Palace of Versailles for his household, leaving the Louvre primarily as a place to display the royal collectionfrom 1692. The Academy remained at the Louvre for 100 years. During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum to display the nation's masterpieces.

The Louvre Pyramid is a large glass and metal pyramid. It serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. Designed by Chinese architect I. M. Pei, it covers an area of 60,600 square meters.
