Yunnan Nationalities Village

Yunnan Nationalities Village is seated on the east shore of Dian Lake, 8 kilometers away from the downtown of Kunming. Covering 840,000 square meters, the Park faces the West Hill Park, Zhenghe Park and Daguan Park on other sides of Lake Dian. Yunnan Nationalities Village was first constructed in 1992 and has functioned as an important window to showcase the diversified ethnic cultures of Yunnan Province.

There are altogether 25 ethnic minorities in Yunnan Province that have a population of over 5,000 respectively. Each minority has built a village of its own in the Park to display the unique culture. The 25 ethnic minorities are Dai, Bai, Yi, Naxi, Wa, Lisu, Dulong, Nu, Zhuang, Hui, Miao, Shui, Yao, Mongolian, Tibetan, Jinuo, La’hu, Bulang, Hani, De’ang, Pumi, Man, Buyi, Jingpo, A’chang and Mosuo (a branch of Naxi). The Park has been well equipped with such facilities such as an auditorium, a central square, tour carts and restaurants serving different cuisines, and thus can meet the needs of visitors.

Travel tips

(1)-Yunnan Nationalities Village is 8 km from downtown;

(2)-Traffic: You can join in tours organized by travel services; take Public Bus No. 24, 44, 73, A1, A91;

(3)- Nearby: Yunnan Nationalities Museum; Haigeng Park (Dian Lake); the West Hill Park etc.;

(4)-Accommodation: Hotels and restaurants available near the Village. There are assorted ethnic food in the eateries and restaurants inside the Village, such as Rice Cooked in Bamboo of the Dai People, Milk Fan of the Bai People, Yak-butter Tea of the Tibetan and Mosuo People etc.

(5)-Shopping: ethnic handicrafts such as Brocades of the Dai People, Silverwares and Bandhnu of the Bai People, and embroidery works of the Miao People etc.
