Not planning your safari for this trip to Cape Town? Perhaps the kids are a little young for that ultimate bush safari, or there is just no time to fit it all in. Well fear not, there is a solution on offer just a short drive from the city that will allow you to fulfill many of your African wildlife needs.

The Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness centre between Stellenbosch and Cape Town allows one thrilling views of some of Africa's wonderful wildlife and bird species. Focusing primarily on African wildlife, The Giraffe House aims to provide a place for people to enjoy the outdoors, whilst experiencing and learning about our African animals and birds and more about what makes them so special.

Yes, there is a giraffe and more

A place called “The Giraffe House” just wouldn’t be complete without, well – a giraffe now would it! The world’s tallest land mammal, reaching heights of up to 6m, is indeed here in the form of a hand-reared giraffe. This is just one of the many animals on show here. One can expect to encounter Zebra, Ostrich, Monkeys, Warthog, Caracul, Eland, Nile Crocodiles and a selection of South African snakes as well as plenty more.

Learn and enjoy

Education is the primary focus of The Giraffe House African Wildlife Centre, and the team here caters very well for groups of children. The wildlife education is presented in an informative wildlife conservation program suited for the individual group. So if there are lots of you in your tour party, or even if its just yourself, the center is well equipped to handle it all.

Up close and very personal

With popular daily interactive encounters held at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00, the centre provides the visitor with the opportunity to meet, touch and even hold some of Africa’s most interesting creatures. The venue is open 7 days a week from 9am – 5pm and there is a small snack kiosk. It is advised that you bring some drinking water along with you, or one can purchase this from the kiosk.
