A combination of world-class theatre productions, high-tech sets and locally made period and modern costumes are what makes the Artscape Theatre Centre stand out as an iconic cultural beacon.
The imposing, dramatic building, located on the Foreshore, has been part of Cape Town's skyline since 1971 and was formerly known as the Nico Malan Theatre. It was renamed Artscape in 2001.
Owned by the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, the venue is used for a range of productions, including ballet, opera and performances by the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. There is a full-service bar and restaurant on the premises.
It has a 1 187-seater opera house and a 540-seater theatre. There is also a 120-seater arena and a 100-seater cabaret venue.
