Bulgaria is a small in territory but big in beauty country in Eastern Europe. It is famous of its rose products and yoghurt.

Plovdivis the second largest city in Bulgaria. It is located in the heart of the country; on the ancient road called Via Diagonalis – this Roman road connected the Middle East and Constantinople (nowadays Istanbul) with Central and Western Europe. The city is allegedly the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe; and also one of the oldest cities in the World. Plovdiv is contemporary of ancient Troy and Mycenae. The difference is that it still stands proudly by the hills it was built around.

For the eight millennia of existence more than seven civilizations have found place for development of their cultures, beliefs and religions. Plovdiv has being a city of great importance in all aspects of life – economic, social and political.

The city flourished during the Roman period – I-IV c. AD. Ones of the most beautiful and significant tourist sites are heritage of this time.

The Roman Stadiumbuilt in II c. AD after the model of the one in ancient Delphi (Greece) is one of only 12 such in the world. With its size of 240 m. length and 50 m. width it had a capacity of 30 000 people. In addition to the big chariot races, games similar to the Olympic Games were held here. Tourists can now witness a 3D movie “Plovdiv in II c.” dedicated to the venue and the games.

Another symbol of Plovdiv is the Ancient Theatre. Built in early II c. it was a place to host different events such as poetry, theatre and music but most interesting is that gladiator battles and fights with animals also took place there. It is now the largest open-air stage in Bulgaria where rock concerts, operas, dance festivals and many other events happen.

Major site: The Old Town where Thracian and Roman remains lie beneath 400 recently restored Bulgarian Revival-style houses with splendid wooden-frame constructions dating back to 18th and 19th century.
