It is the traditional festival of the ethnic groups in Yunnan province, such as Yi, Bai, and Naxi etc. It originates from people’s pray for good harvests. It is held in every Lunar June 24th and lasts for 3 days.

Festival Schedules Of Yunnan Minorities

Groups from eight countries are slated to participate in the Kunming International Carnival and more countries are expected to join this grand occassion. The carnival is a part of the Kungming International Culture and Tourism Festival.

The Water Splashing Festival is an annual Dai minority festival held from April 13 to 15. It is also called “Lenghe Shanghan”, the June New Year or Dai New Year since it is in fact the Dai calendar’s New Year's Day.
