Explora is a Destination Management Organisation (DMO) whose primary function is to promote and market the tourism industry in Lombardy.

Based on a new flexible model – a unique approach in Italy – the ultimate goal of a DMO is to develop tourism and promote and market destinations in a market-oriented approach, by building a network of partnerships between tourism operators, institutions and trade associations. In essence, Explora is a tool at the service of local areas and companies.

Explora is therefore not an economic entity operating in the market for commercial purposes in competition with tour operators, rather it is a business facilitator, organising resources and helping companies create an industry that produces attractive tourist experiences to offer to the market. In addition, Explora acts as a showcase to increase the visibility of the destination product of Lombardy and Milan – and Expo 2015 – to potential tourists.

Expo 2015 is a great opportunity for the city of Milan, the region of Lombardy, and indeed for the whole of Italy. With this in mind, in preparation for Expo Milano 2015 and with the goal of making tourism one of the key drivers of future economic development, Explora S.C.p.A. was established by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts and Agriculture of Milan, Unioncamere Lombardia, Expo 2015 and the Region of Lombardy. Explora’s strategic objective is to increase the competitiveness and attractiveness of ​​Milan and Lombardy as a tourist destination.
