There is sport and emotion all year in Milan. In June, grand athletics go on show at the Arena, the historic structure dedicated to Gianni Brera. Cycling experienced the splendour of the post-war period at the Vigorelli Velodrome in Via Arona with the amazing challenges between Maspes and Gaiardoni and today, it is still a protagonist on the city streets when the Milano-Sanremo gets underway.

Football (soccer), of course, never stops feeding the passion of the team supporters of Milan and Inter in the Meazza Stadium of San Siro, which has been baptised “La Scala of football”, that is, the stadium is to football what the world-famous La Scala theatre is to opera. Two creeds, Milan and Inter, set against each other, but one single passion unites the lovers of football.

Milan invented the Stramilano, a run that is open to everyone, not just enthusiasts or the so-called “Sunday runners”. The marathon can’t be forgotten either, a run of more than 42 kilometres that used to take place in Milan in November and now has found its definitive month of organisation in April. The course is flat and is therefore very fast for anyone wishing to beat their personal record.

In Milan, sport is always at home, with recurring events that involve many disciplines practised at all levels, from tennis to gymnastics and from basketball to volleyball. There are also large events that occur in the city every year including European or world championships and international challenges.
