Save the Children is at the Center of the Social
Relay Team
The relay that features the social organizations of civil society participating in Expo Milano 2015 continues and the baton passes to Save the Children. The week that goes from November 24 to 30 has at its center the values, content and objectives of its participation. It is the largest and most important independent international organizations for the defense of children's rights, which operates in over 120 countries worldwide with a staff of about 14,000 people.
Staring from the theme of Expo Milano 2015 Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life , the participation of Save the Children in the big event aims to develop the themes of nutrition, malnutrition and "nutrition-sensitive" agricultural development. What better time to raise the attention of the institutions on these issues and educate visitors about the causes and effects of malnutrition? This relay team also wants to the opportunity to introduce the discussion and spread awareness through social channels.
The fight against malnutrition
The programs of malnutrition have reached over 14 million children around the world but today still more than six million infants die before the age of five years, half of them due to poor nutrition. The the official facebook and twitter accounts of Save the Children and Expo are speaking about maternal malnutrition, a cause of many of the health problems for newborns and that also slows the growth of the fetus; in addition to child malnutrition which is often linked to hygienic-sanitary conditions; the role of health care workers, and training to teach mothers about the importance of breastfeeding. Above all, Expo will show the progress carried out by Save the Children and there will be a platform for sharing best practices on the organization of civil society participants in Expo.
Every One, an experiential village at the Universal Exposition
Launched in 2009 Every One is a major international campaign to put a stop to infant mortality and to effectively contribute to the achievement of the fourth Millennium Development Goal: reducing child mortality by two thirds by 2015. The village will be built in an area of 800 meters constructed of wood and recycled materials, with outdoor growing spaces and a garden. It’s form will recall the structures present in countries where the organization operates. Inside there will be interactive and multi-sensory installations. Over the course of this week there will be a series of posts dedicated to the project and to some of the programs they have developed around the world, such as those in Tanzania or South Sudan.
