The economic, political and cultural center of Morocco, Marrakech is the third largest city of the country and has long been fondly referred to as the “Rose City” or “Red City” by thousands of cultural pilgrims. As possibly one of the most important of Morocco's four former imperial cities (cities that were built by Moroccan Berber empires), it is also the capital of the mid-southwestern region of Marrakesh-Tensift-El Haouz.

Though it is surrounded by deserts and mountains, it has a moderate and enjoyable climate and is rich in plants and flowers. With so many historic sites and tranquil gardens renowned in the world, Marrakech is known as “the Pearl of the South”.
