Tbilisi City Fest – Among The Best Autumn Food Festivals to Visit in 2019

Famed for its traditions of hospitality and cuisine, Georgia’s capital city Tbilisi is one of the most ancient, colourful, enchanting and spectacular cities in the world. Each year various colourful festivals dedicated to national holidays and other events take part in the city.

Launched in 1979, annual city fest (Tbilisoba) celebrates the history and cultural diversity of Georgia’s capital. The festival takes place in the renovated districts of old Tbilisi and obtained a form of a costumed carnival, from the balconies of the Old Tbilisi style houses, as before, men dressed in national clothes and women dressed in Georgian dresses overlook the rafts floating on the river Mtkvari. There, in the historical part of the city one can meet karachogles, kintos (typical Georgian artisans and merchants dressed in national black costumes) and iron makers.

Every year “Tbilisoba” holds on the first weekend of October. Open-air concerts and attractions, markets and museums, costumed marches and various sports activities, folk dance performances, diverse cultural events and of course, unforgettable culinary offerings from every region of the country, with the world-known Georgian Wine and Chacha (Georgian brandy) – definitely creates enduring impressions for each and every visitor of the city.

The central points of the festival will be hosted mainly in The Old City, as well as in Rike Park and Orbeliani Square. All these locations are easy to reach by public transport or Metro of Tbilisi.
