The Pearl of Southeast Asia

Penang, commonly referred to as the Pearl of the Orient, is one of Asia’s famous islands. Penang entices many tourists who are drawn to the beautiful beaches and to the deep culture embedded within the island. A fascinating fusion of the East and West, Penang embraces modernity while retaining its traditions and old world charm. These are reflected in its harmonious multiracial populace and well-preserved heritage buildings which led to George Town being accorded a listing as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

Penang Hill

Penang Hill also known as Bukit Bendera.Set 830m above Penang's capital, it is generally about five degrees cooler than Georgetown.The Penang Hill Railway first opened in 1923 as a two-section railway.At the top of the hill, you will find a mosque and Hindu temple.

Kek Lok Si

Built since 1891,Kek Lok Si is one of the largest and finest temples in Southeast Asia,located at the foot of the Air Itam mountain.The architectural features include carved pillars, fine woodwork, mostly painted in bright colours, and a plethora of lanterns add to the visual impression.

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion

Built by the merchant Cheong Fatt Tze at the end of 19th century and served as Cheong's private residence.Features of the house include Gothic louvred windows, Stoke-on-Trent floor tiles made of encaustic clay in geometric pieces shaped to fit to a perfect square.

Clan Jetties

Clan Jetties form part of the Penang Heritage Trail. There used to be seven jetties until one was demolished by fire and six remain. Billed as one of the last bastions of old Chinese settlements on the island, this waterfront society is home to houses on stilts of various Chinese clans

Pinang Peranakan Mansion

The Peranakans was a prominent community of acculturated Chinese.Built at the end of the 19th century,with over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectibles.The typical home of a rich Baba of a century ago is recreated to offer a glimpse of their lifestyle and customs and traditions.

Love Lane

Love Lane is a lane within the inner city of George Townis which is a narrow lane that runs from north to south, linking Farquhar Street andChulia Street. Today, the rustic shophouses along Love Lane have been converted into budget hostels, trendy cafes and bars.
