Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center not only has a large group of professional creators including scriptwriters, directors, actors and stage creators, but also has three different-size and full-function professional performance theaters; there are more than 600 performances by self-creating and communicating introduction, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people at home and abroad.

Established in January 23, 1995, the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center is comprised of two famous drama-performance groups: the original Shanghai People's Art Theater (established in 1950) and Shanghai Youth Drama Group (established in 1957). Shanghai People's Art Theater and Shanghai Youth Drama Group were created respectively by Mr. Xia Yan and Mr. Huang Zuolin & Xiong Foxi; during the decades, more than 500 Chinese and Western classical masterpieces and modern works have been performed here.

Since its establishment in 1995, it continues to conduct the creation and rehearsal of new dramas; by carrying out several national show tours every year, it is awarded many national prizes such as the Plum Blossom Prize, Golden Lion and Magnolia Award in plays, screenwriters, directors, actors, stages.

In addition, it focuses on enlarging the cultural communication with countries all over the world and learning creation experience of various countries. During the past decades, it has been on more than 100 works at all times and in all over the world and conducted all kinds of cooperations and reciprocal performances with artists from Britain, United States, France, Australia, Canada, Russia, Romania, Austria, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Ireland, Egypt, Germany, Turkey, Hongkong and Taiwan.
