Soon, you may be able to stay in a vertical forest in China.
The Telegraph reports two tremendously unique buildings will begin to sprout in Nanjing, China as early as 2018.
It will be a green take on modern architecture with buildings that are said to offer a helping hand in the fight against pollution. Regardless of its efficacy, these structures are simply gorgeous. According to the report, you will be able to book a stay at one of them.
Italian architect Stefano Boeri is tasked with creating these two buildings set to open in 2018—one larger than the other.
The more diminutive of the two will be of particular interests to travelers as it will house a Hyatt that comes with its very own rooftop pool, and if you crave things to do nearby other than admiring the view, you can head over to the second building which the report states will house a museum and (apropos to the design) an architecture school.
If that weren’t enough, it will also have a rooftop club, albeit a private one. Still, we like to daydream about partying on top of a lush garden like this.
As for these “forests,” the report states both will be quite festooned with greenery, including 1,100 trees and 2,500 plants.
More than attracting visitors, these buildings have ecology in mind. The report explains: “A series of alternating 'green tanks and balconies' will also make up the construction and it's hoped that this leafy addition to the Nanjing skyline will absorb 25 tons of CO2 annually.”
Climate change continues to alter the planet’s landscape. Hopefully, projects like this illustrate how creativity and design can help slow its massive effect while also decorating the skyline with a gorgeous and verdant display.
