This year, we are about to celebrate the 831st birthday of the Hamburg Port, which is also the highlight of this year! Hamburg, which is world-renowned for its port, is also a well-known music capital. Music festivals, operas and concerts of all kinds will run through the year. Don’t miss it! Hamburg International Music Festival
The Hamburg International Music Festival has already entered its fifth year. The festival has already become a gold brand to Hamburg, the musical city. Over four weeks, the orchestras and concert organizers from Hamburg will work together to combine many seasonal highlights to provide wonderful performances for music fans and strive to bring cross-regional influences to people. This season’s motto is “Believe”, which will cover all major concerts during the festival. Many stars at home and abroad will perform at concerts of classical music, jazz, world music and pop music to present their works to people.

Hamburg Port Anniversary
May 7 of 1189 marked the birth of Hamburg Port. Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa issued a customs letter granting the Hamburgians the privilege of sailing free of Customs duties along the Elbe River as far as the North Sea, thus contributing to the economic boom of the Hamburg Port and the prosperity of Hamburg as the Free and Hanseatic city. Every May, more than 1 million people go to the festival promenade along the Elbe River, which locate between Newport and Oevelgönne, to celebrate the port’s “birthday”. This year marks the 831st anniversary of Hamburg Port! Let’s celebrate her birthday together.

Hamburg Cherry Blossom Festival
In early 1960s, a Japanese community donated hundreds of cherry trees to the city of Hamburg. These trees are still growing along the Alster lakes. Since 1968, the Japanese community in the city has been hosting the annual “Kirschblütenfest” (lit: Cherry Blossom Festival) to express their gratitude for the hospitality of the city. Therefore, the Cherry Blossom Festival has been passed down in Hamburg. Every Friday night of the cherry blossom week, beautiful fireworks will light up the sky above the Alster lakes, which is a highlight of the festival. In addition, a cherry blossom princess will be elected twice a year!

Hamburg ELBJAZZ Festival
Since 2010, thousands and hundreds of audience have been looking forward to this largest jazz music festival in Europe. During the festival, Hamburg’s unique port view will be integrated with other spectacular event venues. Many high-level international artists, jazz bands and others will present at the two-day music festival, to provide a music feast to audience of the ELBJAZZ Festival.

Altonale
As the largest cultural and regional art festival in north Germany, the annual Altonale innovates and brings some changes to people. Over 200 events, including arts, culture, drama, film, music and dance will be held in Altona. More than 200 artists from Hamburg, north Germany and abroad will bring various visual and auditory feasts to audience.

46th Hamburg Ballet Days
Since founding in 1975, the Hamburg Ballet Days will be held by the end of each performance season. Now it has become an important festival to Hamburg. The Hamburg Ballet Days often starts with the premiere of a new ballet, with different themes each year. The annual festival is hosted by John Neumeier, and it aims to commemorate ancient forms of ballet art.

Hamburg Christmas markets 2020

Hamburger DOM 2020
DOM means "church" in German. It is the oldest and largest folk festival in Europe. Hamburger DOM is held three times a year in spring, summer, and winter respectively, and it is undoubtedly the most anticipated festival to kids! Each year, more than 10 million people participate in this amusement festival. DOM doesn’t offer tickets. It is a large-scale open playground, and visitors can pay for the entertainment projects on their own. Here, people can variety of rides, folk snacks, and performances here freely, as well as the firework show at 10.30 p.m. every Friday!

Elbphilharmonie Plaza Music Festival
Designed by Herzog & de Meuron as the new landmark of Hamburg, Elbphilharmonie Plaza, as a new landmark of Hamburg, is located between the downtown and the port, blending the old dock warehouse with novel glass structures as well as curved roof. In addition to the three concert halls, the building also has luxury hotels and public viewing platforms. The open design of the platform highlights this new landmark as "a concert hall for everyone". We will also release the information about new concert season of the Elbphilharmonie Plaza in time.
