Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) celebrated the reopening of its borders for travellers from the Middle East with an intimate dinner event, ’Get Ready For Amazing Thailand 2021’, at Benjarong Restaurant, Dusit Thani Hotel, featuring Thai-inspired remixes by DJ Bliss.

The event showcased a live cooking demonstration of Thai Massaman Curry which is recognised as the number one dish by CNN Travel’s ‘The World’s 50 Best Foods’, followed by a Muay Thai ritual performance, ‘Wai Khru Ram Muay’.

“We are excited to announce the reopening of our borders after taking all the necessary precautions. The support of public and private sector partners has enabled us to elevate the travel and tourism industry standards with the introduction of the ‘Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration’ (SHA) certificate, developing confidence among international and domestic travellers,” said Pichaya Saisaengchan, director of TAT for Dubai and the Middle East.

“We look forward to starting 2021 on a positive note as we convey to travellers from the region to ‘Get Ready for Amazing Thailand 2021’. We want to encourage Arab Millennials and travellers from the Middle East, to experience sustainable tourism while engaging with local communities by discovering off-the-beaten path regions such as Kanchanaburi, Trat and Phang-Nga,” he added.

Thailand announced the reopening of its borders to travellers from the Middle East in November with the introduction of the ‘TR’ tourist visa which enables tourists to visit Thailand for up to 60 days. Recently, 5 GCC nationals (UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar) can enter Thailand without visa and stay up to 30 days including a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. The updated tourist visa aims to revive Thailand’s international tourism following the success of its domestic travel campaign.
