Dazu Rock Carvings is listed as a World Cultural Heritage, national 5A level scenic area and a key national cultural relics protection site. A total of 100,000 stone statutes can be found in more than 70 places in the scenic area. Among all carvings, the most famous carvings and inscriptions can be found on the cliffs of Baoding Mountain and Beishan Mountain. Statutes on the mountain are mainly Buddhist statutes, but Confucian and Taoist ones are also established. These works represent late Chinese art of rock carving statutes which hold a critical position in the art history of rock carving statutes in ancient China. It is also renowned as a miraculous “Pearl of the Oriental Art”.
