History and Culture

As early as 200 B.C., Nicosia was once known as "Ledra" which is in the southwest of now Nicosia. It is an important ancient city of Cyprus. Nicosia is built up gradually on the basis of Ledra. Nicosia has experienced the rule of Byzantine (A.D. 330-1191), Lusignan Dynasty (A.D. 1192-1489), Venetians (A.D. 1489-1571), Turkish (A.D. 1571-1878) and British (A.D. 1878-1960).
