The main protective work against typhoons shall be carried out 1 to 6 hours before typhoons make landfall, particularly 3 to 4 hours before they hit land. For that reason, all preparatory work should be completed within 12 hours before their landing and it is necessary to avoid going outdoors 1 to 6 hours before landfall. Those who remain outdoors are 4 times more likely to get injured than those who choose to remain indoors.

The elderly are particularly at risk in typhoons, particularly elderly people over the age of over 70. Main causes of personal injury and death arising from typhoons include house collapse, hard object impacts and falling. For that reason, people shall withdraw from unstable buildings in a timely manner.

Please reinforce doors and windows in the 12 hours before the typhoon arrives. Do not close the door or window or repair the house when a typhoon attacks. Some large-size billboards may easily drop and trees and electric poles be pulled down when a typhoon attacks. Do not park your vehicle under a tree or along a bank. Pedestrians should keep away from unstable houses, walls, billboards, electric poles and other objects that may easily collapse.
