Exhibition Highlights
A - BallinStadt
The live and interactive exhibition, built on the original site, takes you on a journey into Hamburg's past as a port of departure for millions of emigrants and yields a hoard of passenger lists containing the names of five million people seeking their fortune in the "New World".
B - Hamburger
KunsthalleHamburger Kunsthalle considers itself to be a service for residents and guests of the city. The exhibitions are accompanied by discussions, lectures from prominent artists and talks. The Kunsthalle has a somewhat inspiring meandering feel owing to the three linked buildings dating from 1869, 1919 and 1997. Hamburger Kunsthalle is one of the most important art museums in Germany.
C - Bucerius
Kunst ForumThe exhibitions are complemented by a varied cultural accompanying programme of lectures, readings and concerts. In the Kinder Kunst Club, or 'Children's Art Club', young visitors are introduced to art through play, and the annual Octoganale music and literature festival welcomes more than music lovers.
D - Speicherstadtmuseum
A hands-on museum! In the authentic surroundings of an old warehouse, which is over 100 years old, the Speicherstadtmuseum displays typical goods and tools from the warehousing and trading companies of the Speicherstadt. Historical photos and plans explain the history of this heritage building which is unique in the world. Regular guided tours: "From the Speicherstadt to the HafenCity", and coffee, cocoa and tea...
E - Miniatur Wunderland
Hamburg46 computers control the 930 trains and the over 335,000 lights during the unique night show. Cars travel as if by magic. Boats move over real water and more than 215,000 little figures provide an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Visitors are fully drawn into the event and they can use switches to control parts of the layout themselves.
F - Deichtorhallen
From 1911, a private sponsor and the architect Josef Paul Kleihues converted the dilapidated former market halls into two of the largest and most beautiful exhibition halls in Europe. 6,000 square metres of space is available here. It is primarily used for international contemporary art in specially put together themed exhibitions or individual shows from Warhol to Chagall and Haring.
G - Planetarium
The Hamburger Planetarium in Stadtpark is the largest "star theatre" in Northern Germany. A multimedia orchestra on projectors reproduces a deceptively real simulation of far and near celestial events on a 21-metre wide dome and communicates the drama of the cosmic ballet and the uniqueness of the fragile Planet Earth.
