Exotic animals in the magic of music
It is truly a summernight's dream when joyful classical sounds are heard at Tierpark Hagenbeck. On these three extraordinary cultural evenings, outstanding musicians demonstrate that classical music is very alive.
From the tender tones of the oboe to the sparkling sound of the harp, almost all the instruments of a symphony orchestra can be discovered in ensembles especially put together for these evenings. 65 musicians in 17 different ensembles perform familiar and also less familiar works, and take works of the baroque, classical and romantic periods off the concert stage and make them a sensuous experience for the delight of visitors.
But not only "classic" classical music has found its way into the park, but also new sounds caress the ears. One ensemble will play this year for the first time and promises exceptional musical pleasure: "Classic meets Latin". That is what happens when a cellist meets a South American guitarist and together they interpret works by Astor Piazzolla, among others.
In front of the vivarium, in the gold-painted Thailand Room or on a floating stage on the Japan Pool – the scenes in Tierpark Hagenbeck are made to be the settings for romantic sounds. Compositions by Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Vivaldi and many others lend a very special magic to the atmosphere in the zoo. Not only is the setting lovely, but the gaudy Bengali fireworks display above the ancient rocks or a carriage ride through the park at evening make the romantic nights something special. The more than 1,850 exotic animals in the wonderfully designed historic parkland and the culinary delights form an exquisite backdrop for this summer highlight for all classical music enthusiasts.
