The world of chocolate in the Heart of Hamburg
An interactive world of adventure about the phenomenon of chocolate! The permanent, 1,200 square-metre exhibition opened in December 2001, and here families, Hamburg visitors and chocoholics can follow the exciting path of the cocoa bean right up to the production of the finished chocolate bar.
In addition to the "island of plants" with genuine cocoa, pepper, ginger, chilli and sugar cane plants, visitors are given CHOCOVERSUM'S interesting information about the harbour and the cocoa trade, while in the interactive exhibition areas they can load a ship with cocoa beans as a dock worker, inspect the cocoa beans as a quality controller, or discover the differences between chocolate flavours. In our "Aroma-Studio" every visitor becomes a chocolatier themselves. Each visitor creates their personal favourite chocolate from various ingredients.
Traditional chocolate production is presented using four enormous, original machines that demonstrate the individual manufacturing steps - from roasting, mixing and rolling to stirring and grinding the ingredients, then on to packaging. And of course tasting is allowed at every stop!
There are also films and photos, as well as an exhibition entitled "Kakao und Körper" (cocoa and bodies), in which the health aspects of chocolate are explained, and an "Aroma-Studio" with a varied chocolate programme for young and old. And at the end there is of course a shop selling the finest chocolates and sweets from the refrigerated display counter.
