The large Alsterpark, located on the northwestern shore of the Outer Alster, is very popular with everyone in Hamburg - you can find blissful relaxation among swans, geese, sailing ships and greenery.
Sun-seekers, students, employees of the nearby offices and consulates as well as lots of other Hamburg residents enjoy nature along the waterfront and in the park's meadows. You can watch the sailing ships and enjoy the splendid panorama of the Alster.
The Alsterpark was remodelled in 1953 as part of the IGA international garden show and is split into two architecturally: One part is dominated by meadows and trees, the other by garden architecture with walls and paths.
You can rent boats in several places and settle into one of the surrounding cafés. The park is also perfect for jogging and cycling.
Tip: Every year in May, the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival attracts numerous visitors with its fantastic firework display.
