Situated alongside the Grand Canal, where it joins the Sancha Canal, Gaomin Temple is considered one of the four great Zen monasteries of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Qing Emperor Kangxi named the temple and inscribed the words“the Gaomin Temple built under Imperial Order”during his visit.
The temple has Buddhism influences from Southeast Asia and visitors can see a standing Buddha and reclining jade Buddha on display at the temple. The Buddhas originated from Myanmar.
Buddhists from China and Southeast Asia use the temple for worship.
