Daming Temple is one of Yangzhou’s most popular tourism attractions and is known for its perfect integration of classic gardens, cultural and historic relics, and Buddhist architectural features.
Daming Temple was built during the Daming reign of the Southern Dynasty (457-464) and was therefore named after the ruler. It also has a Memorial Hall for Jian Zhen who sailed to Japan to preach Buddhism in Tang Dynasty. The hall commemorates the abbot’s contribution to promoting relations between China and Japan.
