The Slender West Lake is known nationwide for its narrow and meandering waterways that connect gardens, bridges and the area’s numerous picturesque spots. The lake is known for its beauty and is often mentioned throughout Chinese poetry and literature since the Qing Emperor Qianlong’s visit during his reign (1735-1796).
It also holds a large collection of bonsai, known as penzai, adding a poetic appeal throughout the area.
