Buddha Jayanti is the special occasion for both Hindus and Buddhists and all those who believe in Buddhism.
People celebrate this day as the day of the Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death. Lord Buddha’s birthplace-Lumbini Grove-is in the Terai region of Nepal is crowded with the people of Nepal as well as Buddhism follower’s from around the world.
In Kathmandu Buddhists of all persuasions as well as pilgrims from abroad, honor the Buddha at the two great stupas Swyambhunath, Boudhanath and the largely Buddhist city of patan. Activity at the main Buddhist stupas and shrines begins at dawn.
Swayambhunath and Boudhanath, Kathmandu are the busiest sites for the day of Buddha Jayanti.
