Mudanjiang has a long history, and it is the place where Manchu ancestors Sushen, Yilou and Wuji had been living from Shang Dynasty to Sui Dynasty about 2300 years. Therefore, the city enjoys amorous feedings of Manchu. Mudanjiang was under the jurisdiction of Capital Longquanfu of Bohai State in Tang Dynasty, Shangjing Huligailu in Song Dynasty, Wanhufu in Jin and Yuan dynasties, Ningguta General Office in Ming Dynasty and General Jilin in Qing Dynasty. As the Qing Government had seen Mudanjiang as the "holy land of origin" and implemented "ban on reclamation" policy, therefore, the city has not seen development until the construction of Chinese Eastern Railway in 1903. And there are many historic spots, such as Chengzihoushancheng and Capital Longquanfu of Bohai State in Tang Dynasty. After the September 18th Incident, the Japanese occupied the northeast China, and further strengthened the construction of railway in order to plunder the timber and coal resources.
