Helsinki is a great summer festival city where you can enjoy the atmosphere of big festivals and take part in smaller city events unique to Helsinki.

The historic power plant milieu at Suvilahti offers a unique setting for the annual music and urban culture event Flow Festival taking place on 8-10 August. The festival brings the most interesting performers from Finland and abroad to Helsinki for a programme that includes contemporary music from indie rock to jazz and world music to the freshest club sounds.

Summer Sound Festival gathers fans of electronic music to Messukeskus on 18-20 July. Weekend Festival that will be held in Kyläsaari on 15-16 August is specialized in techno music.

The annual summer event, the Jazz-Espa festival, will be arranged at the Esplanade Park in Helsinki from 28 July to 2 August. The daily performances start at 4 pm and the event is finished off with jams at the JazzPiknik open-air event on 3 August, when six Finnish bands perform on the Espa’s stage and the event expands to the Glass Palace square.

Finland’s biggest multi-arts festival, the Helsinki Festival, will be enjoyed in the city from 15 to 31 August. This major two-week event presents a wide range of events from classical music to pop and world music, from theatre to contemporary dance, and from the visual arts to cinema and children’s events. The Helsinki Festival’s popular city event, The Night of the Arts, will be held on 21 August. Related events include also the now 20-year-old Art goes Kapakka city festival that is arranged in the central bars, cafés and restaurants of Helsinki from 14 to 23 August.
