Located by the Kelang River within the Kalagashi pasture of Altay city, the Red Stone Scenic Area is only 8 kilometers away from the city center. With an area of 1,650 mu (110 hectares), it stretches some 2.56 kilometers in length from north to south, and ranges from 0.21 to 0.65 kilometers in width. At an altitude of 700 meters, the Red Stone Scenic Area is famous for its natural sceneries, such as mountains, rivers, trees and fields.
In its middle section stands a towering mountain with a peak resembling a lion in profile. Situated beside a river, the mountain is over 60 meters in width and over 80 meters in height, with a natural stone cave inside. The stones on the mountain are primarily red, hence the name Red Stone. Natural sceneries along the Kelang River are indeed a feast for the eyes, including Lion Head, Soap Cave and A Stripe of Sky to name a few. With 150 stairs designed for tourism purposes, one can enjoy everything at a leisurely pace. There are two tourist service centers with catering service. Also worth visiting is the breeding farm where African blue-neck ostriches have become a must-see for visitors of the Red Stone Scenic Area.
