Cameltain, short for Camel Mountain, got its name for a reason. Looking from Jiexin Square of Altay city, one can see a camel halfway up the towering mountain in the northwest with its mouth open, head raised and humps straight, determined to reach the summit.
Situated along the Kelan River in the central area of Altay city, Camel Mountain is a national 2A scenic area with a height of 150 meters. Looking from the riverside, one sees its grandness and steep chutes. Camel Mountain has become a perfect place for hiking and exploring, with traces of earlier human activities still intact, such as sketches of people hunting and shooting rocks. In recent years, fossils of grass and other plants have been discovered on the cliff side, providing evidence that the mountain was the result of orogeny in the Jurassic Period.
